Our HistoryThe Rockwood is included
in the National Register of Historic
Places
Renovation of The Rockwood, built in 1928, and construction of the new dining room, kitchen and entry foyer began in October 2005. Noted for its Tudor Revival architecture and reminiscent of romantic English homes, The Rockwood’s 29 renovated one- and two-bedroom apartment homes have hardwood floors throughout. Great care was taken to preserve these original wood floors, wood trim, and doors. The over-sized Murphy Bed closet doors and the kitchen pass-through windows also received special attention.
The kitchens have been updated with stainless steel appliances, designer cabinetry and solid surface countertops. Washer/dryer hook-ups are included in most apartments. Bathrooms have ceramic tile floors and walls (duplicating the original tile patterns) and new pedestal sinks, toilets and step-in showers. Brushed nickel finishes (extremely popular in the late 20’s and 30’s) were used in lighting fixtures and medicine chests. An emergency response system, individually controlled heat and air-conditioning, resident storage, smoke detectors, fire sprinkler system and on-site reserves surface and underground parking bring today’s comforts to the charms of this historic building.
Historic
Webster Groves
Founded in 1896, Webster Groves is
known as the City of Century Homes.
Its natural beauty and groves of trees
influenced its naming but its appeal
to new pioneers seeking a quiet place
away from the city has remained a founding
principle. The infrastructure of the
city and the buildings of the community
have outlived the residents who created
them but remain a daily reminder of
the work and planning of the city founders
and the continued efforts of the people
of Webster Groves to enhance life here.
